WHITE DOG TAPROOM: Craft beer and great food
White Dog Taproom was opened in August 2015 by Roeks and Lauran Griessel just 5km outside of Magaliesburg.
It is also the home of the handcrafted Roeks Beer. The brewery is not located on the property – it is handcrafted on Mogallywood Farm in the Magaliesberg where the restaurant and bar were situated before moving closer to Magaliesburg. Although the menu is not extensive, the quality of food is outstanding. There are no pre-prepared or frozen foods, other than the fish which is supplied frozen. All food is prepared freshly on order, so it takes a little time. There are no waiters, all food and drinks are ordered with the barman and the food is served by the chef in person. White Dog Taproom goes out of its way to provide value for money with generous portions. The restaurant specialises in mouth-watering pizza made in a wood-fired oven and measured portions. The snails and fish are to die for while steak and ribs are high in demand. There is ample space for kids to run around and another huge bonus is that the venue is dog-friendly.
The restaurant does takeouts, but it is not a fast-food outlet. Visit White Dog Taproom at the corner of the R24 Rustenburg Road and R98 Seekoeihoek Road, Magaliesburg. Details: Contact them on 071 492 7514 or 082 330 0646.

LA PROVENCE D’AFRIQUE: A French affair
When you enter the grounds, you will be amazed by the peace and tranquillity that La Provence D’Afrique offers. Seven unique French suites have been created inside the gorgeous old stone studio of well-known sculptor, Charles Gotthard.
All these suites open onto a small street café in the centre, with two fireplaces creating a lovely, romantic atmosphere – a must for a small French-style wedding and honeymoon. In the courtyard, the antique décor and furniture pieces relate to the Moulin Rouge era, with dummy stairs supposedly leading upwards to the chambers and a balcony.
The suites are furnished with exquisite French carved beds, fireplaces, romantic bathrooms with antique Victorian baths, beautiful antique furniture pieces and hand-embroidered linen. This attention to detail makes for an unforgettable weekend for those who still love a touch of French romance without having to travel all the way to Europe.
Why not indulge your senses at the Zen forest spa on a wooden deck with a splash pool set in the forest overlooking the river? The spa specialises in body massages, hot stone therapy, Indian head massages and foot massages. Two qualified therapists are waiting to cater to your every whim.
If this is not your cup of tea, you can stay at the Out of Africa guesthouse. Choose one of the marvellous double-storey thatched cottages – accommodating a party of up to 14 people – set within six acres of park-like gardens. On alternate mornings, you will be treated to a scrumptious brunch basket for a dining experience with a difference down by the river.
This is the perfect setting to relax and get away from it all. La Provence D’Afrique is a wonderful venue for a large group of people wanting to have a great get-together, filled with a variety of fun and games. A vintage chef’s truck has been furbished as a pub, supplying all the beverages you might want, such as port, sherry, hot chocolate and Irish coffee. At the bottom end of the street, at the big fireplace, you will find three large couches perfect for lounging on.
