Curro Krugersdorp treat Fora pets to a day of joy

Seven learners from Curro Krugersdorp High School set off to Friends of Rescued Animals (Fora) to deliver a load of pet food which had been donated by the learners of the school. The learners were greeted by a goat, which initially did not come across as very friendly, but after a few minutes they learnt that there is no such thing as an unfriendly animal at Fora.

Mandela Day in Krugersdorp – what locals did to honour Madiba

Krugersdorpers showed their caring side on Mandela Day, 18 July by giving back, as Tata Madiba did. The community celebrated what would have been his 100th birthday and enjoyed spending time at old age homes, orphanages and even at schools. The day was filled with joy and the spirit of Ubuntu as everyone spent 67 minutes (even more) giving back.

Cebo Siloam Foundation (a non-profit organisation aimed at helping orphaned, poor, exploited and disabled children, in particular those living in rural and poor, under-developed communities) and Monsanto Company, treated 75 underprivileged children from the Krugersdorp West, Burgershoop and Quellerie Park areas with an exciting day they’ll never forget. The News was there to capture the precious moments.

Hot air balloon competition wows everyone

The quiet of the morning was broken by the sounds of a massive fan and a flamethrower, and everyone flocked around the baskets and heated up their heads with the flames above. The Afrox South African Hot Air Balloon Championships hosted by Bill Harrop’s Original Balloon Safaris had various challenges. The News was there to share the experience.

The Hood Challenge upskills community crime fighters

A visible policing presence and good collaboration between police, private security companies and residents can make a big difference in keeping areas more safe and secure. To support CPF’s and to up the skills of anti-crime volunteers, the inaugural Hood Challenge was held on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 June at the Black Duck Field Sports in Kromdraai. The Hood Challenge is a private sector initiative aimed at up-skilling volunteers who put their lives on the line to protect families and communities.

Dino-mite exhibition at Cradlestone Mall

In conjunction with the cinema release of Jurassic World 3, prehistoric creatures came alive at Cradlestone Mall to bring shoppers an epic experience of the Lost World for the school holidays. This mesmerising display is open until 15 July and is free of charge for the whole family to enjoy. The News visited the mall to see what’s shaking.

Bingo, bango, bongo!

The Krugersdorp Rotary Club hosted its annual Bingo evening at the Centenary Hall on Friday night, 1 June and it was something straight out of Las Vegas because practically everybody was a winner! The News editor, Janine Viljoen, also hosted a table at the charity event and described it as good, clean, community fun.

Rural community holds its own soccer world cup

For those who couldn’t afford soccer world cup tickets, a rural community in Tarlton decided to hold their own world cup. Soccer stars from all ages showcased impressive skills while spectators soaked up all the action. The News was there to capture the great sporting moments.

It was a sea of green at gold at MTN Boktown

On Youth Day, 16 June, hundreds of loyal Springbok supporters flocked to Silverstar’s MTN Boktown to support our men in green and gold. Luckily the weather stayed away and even though Eskom’s loadshedding kicked in straight after half-time, the crowd stayed true to their team and supported them right through to the end. The News was also there to witness the epic game.

Die NG Kerk Krugersdorp-Oos gemeente se jaarlikse Winterfees was weer die hoogtepunt op talle se kalenders. Smullekker pannekoek, pragtige handgemaakte items en ‘n opwindende pretdraf was aan die orde van die dag. Die News was daar om elke oomblik vas te vang en om ook natuurlik aan al die lekker eetgoed te smul.
