National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer was held on Saturday, 29 September across 79 malls in the country and involved thousands of bakers – also known as Cupcake Angels – who began preparations many months before. Krugersdorp’s own Key West Shopping Centre and Cradlestone Mall were no exception when passing shoppers were presented with the opportunity to support the very worthy cause. Angels at Key West were joined by two local parents and volunteers – Danell and Nico Smith – who sadly lost their two-year-old son, Juwan to cancer on 12 August.
With the soft and soothing sounds of Abbott Sky and Havanna Gas, and with a drink in hand, guests enjoyed a relaxing and tranquil day out, lazing on over-sized cushions underneath the trees and umbrellas on the well-manicured lawns at the first-ever Gin Festival, organised by Glenburg Lodge. It was the perfect day for patrons to taste and enjoy the variety of home-crafted gins in their complimentary gin glass.
An annual dinner dance to benefit the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) and the Lumin Foundation was held at Usambara Lodge recently. While Cansa’s purpose is to lead the fight against cancer in South Africa by offering a unique and integrated service to the public and all people affected by cancer, the Lumin Foundation aims to bring hope and light to children suffering from cancer and the families who love and support them.
