Women’s Day Inspiration 3 – ‘Women are like Swiss Army Knives’

The News decided to feature three remarkable women from Krugersdorp who have extraordinary stories to share.

Kenmare’s Donna Groothedde is a wife, mother of three, business owner and fitness guru, all-round do-gooder and just generally a nice person to be around. She’s had her fair share of difficulties, but bounced back every time because of her amazing support system, hands-on husband and her many friends in the community. This sassy 33-year-old was very active from the age of eight and was also an avid gymnast.

Even though she has an Honours degree to her name, she never really felt fulfilled and decided to study physical science, and the rest, as they say, is history.

For almost a decade now she has mastered the art of fitness by improving her skills by completing the one qualification after the other.

But who is Donna when she is not pushing her clients to their fitness peaks?

She is mother to five-year-old Blake, three-year-old Shay and seven-month-old Nate and keeping the balance between running a household and a business and still making time for her growing family might actually make it seem like she took classes in juggling as well!

Just like any other mother of a young family, Donna often feels the need to just let herself ‘go’. But then she realises that she is an inspiration and motivation to many and that her mind-set needs to be right, almost all the time.

When she is not breast-feeding baby Nate, she reads to her other children and goes for a jog whenever she feels stressed.

“Being a woman with so many things on my plate can seem tiring for most, but it’s not. By prioritising you can achieve a lot. Women need to see that ‘me time’ is a priority. Treat it as a hair or nail appointment. Make time, set it up and keep it. That way you will also have time for yourself and in the long run you will be in a much better frame of mind for yourself, and your family.”

Look out for Donna while she’s taking a jog in the neighbourhood … you cannot miss her as she is always smiling!
