Thank you for saving my life

Early on Friday morning, 27 April, just after midnight, on Beyers Naudé Drive, on my way to Muldersdrift, a small bakkie made a U-turn in front of me.

With no time to react, my bike went right into the side of the vehicle, causing me to be flung onto the road ahead. The impact fractured a small piece of bone just below the knee of my right leg, as well as resulting in my lung collapsing. Realising that I still was on the road, I dragged myself to the side.

Then I just started praying, and soon enough an off-duty police officer approached me and asked, very calmly, if there was someone he could contact for me.

I found the right number miraculously. The phone started ringing and I handed it to the officer. The person answered and the officer explained what had happened, handed my phone back to me and my friend Deon said help is on the way.

This made me feel so relieved, I calmed down immediately.

I just want to thank the unknown police officer who helped me, as well as all those who played a part in saving my life … my friend Deon Lotz, the paramedics, hospital staff … doctors and nurses. Thank you to all my family and friends for caring.
