Curro Krugersdorp recently had their first ever Project-based Learning (PBL) Exhibition.
Each grade was allocated a different field of study. The main attraction of the event was the Grade 7 Science Exhibition.
The winner of the Science category was Bronwyn Smit, a Grade 7A learner. She designed a ‘mist nozzle’ to help the school to save water.
She got her idea while sitting at a restaurant where they were spraying water to cool the area. She linked the fog nozzle at home to a tap and measured how much water was used if you wash your hands in 14 seconds, and found it was only 40 millilitres.
She also measured how much water would be used without the nozzle in 14 seconds, and that turned out to be 400 millilitres.
Bronwyn drew her test group from the learners at the school.
This idea was seen as very striking in light of the serious water shortage Cape Town is experiencing.
