[MOB JUSTICE] Community beats up man after he allegedly breaks into woman’s house

Police arrested a young man after he allegedly broke into a woman’s house and stole various items.

The man was caught by community members and beaten up after they found stolen property in his possession.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, spokesperson for the Kagiso Police, said the woman was outside her house busy with laundry when she heard a commotion in the street on the other side of her house.

“She rushed to the scene to see what was happening and noticed an unknown suspect being assaulted by a group of people for possession of stolen property,” said Sibiya.

“The complainant identified some of the property as hers. She then went back to her residence to check and was shocked to realise that her store-room had been broken into.”

Her stolen property included a braai stand, cooler box, rubbish bin, two-plate mini oven stove, camp chair and electric cord. The suspect was later handed over to the police who then put him under arrest and later opened a case docket of house breaking and theft.

The suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for a formal bail application.

The station commander at the Kagiso Police Station expressed his disappointment with the community’s continued attitude of ignoring calls from police to refrain from taking the law into own their hands.
