Krugersdorp Police arrested a 29-year-old suspect for common robbery after he tried to grab a cellphone out of a teenager’s hand in Commissioner Street outside Home Affairs in Krugersdorp.

The boy was at the department with his mother when he went to their car to fetch the cellphone.

The suspect approached the boy and grabbed the phone from him, but the boy was brave enough to grab it back and run inside to get assistance.

“When he got outside, he noticed the same suspect approaching his mother, but he was wearing different clothes,” said Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, spokesperson for Krugersdorp Police.

They proceeded to the police station to ask for assistance. The police went out to look for the suspect and found him after the boy pointed him out.

On further investigation the police found the clothes he was initially wearing in a plastic bag.

The suspect was detained and charged with common robbery.

Newly appointed Krugersdorp Police station commander, Brigadier Mashao, would like to applaud the victim for his bravery in this incident.

“We’ve had number of robberies in the past with the same modus operandi,” said Mashao. “We are appealing to the community to assist the police with information about suspicious people roaming around the streets for no reason.”

The suspect will appear in court soon.
