The Gauteng West Sports, Culture and Values Awards Ceremony which was held in January at Pro-Practicum School, recognised outstanding sporting, cultural and values achievements registered in 2017.
They clearly represent Gauteng Department of Education’s high regard for the holistic development of the learner.
It was a glittering and memorable afternoon for nominees, parents and invited guests. Hoërskool Jan de Klerk walked away with five awards. They are Genre of the Year, Cultural School of the Year, Cultural Administrator of the Year – male, Cultural Administrator of the Year – female and Cultural Star of the Year.
Indeed, this must have been one of the proudest moments for the Jannas community, especially the principal, JB van Aardt. The feeling was indescribable.
Moses Dhokotera, Jannas debating coach, coordinator and accredited adjudicator, was crowned the Cultural Administrator of the Year – Male. His colleague, Marli Labuschagne, Raca coordinator and Bratislava Debating Tour Organiser, was handed the Cultural Administrator of the Year – Female second place. Not only teachers were recognised and saluted; Kelebogile Diale, Jannas Debating Club President, Absa Debating Championships Winner, SACEE plate winner, Gauteng Delegate to Nationals, member of the triumphant Gauteng Team at Nationals and ninth ranked speaker in South Africa, received the third place Cultural star of the Year award.
“This award is bigger than Dhokotera. Numerous individuals and organisations supported us throughout the year. Nothing could have been achieved without the unwavering support of colleagues, school management team, parents, Department of Education and their partners. All stakeholders value every learner’s intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative and spiritual development; I am because we are,” Moses said.
“All the appreciation we have been receiving has been inspiring. It pushes us to punch above our weight. Our sincerest gratitude to the Department of Education and their partners for the honour”, echoed Marli.
