André The Hilarious Hypnotist:

19 JANUARY — André takes a group of ordinary people and changes them into stars, providing an evening of entertainment for the family at the Pieter Toerien Theatre, Montecasino. André is back with his one-man show with a heap of volunteers. Trained by Max Collie, André is known for his ability to make people jump around on stage at the snap of a finger. He makes his volunteers speak moon language, forget their names, impersonate chickens and perform a host of other routines. Tickets cost R120. Nik Rabinowitz at Sandton Square:

Until 20 JANUARY — The Auto & General Theatre on the Square presents Nik Rabinowitz in Fortyfied. After the successful recent run of his one-man show in Cape Town, and turning 40, comedian Nik Rabinowitz decided the best location for his midlife crisis would be Sandton. Bookings can be made at Computicket online ( or telephonically on 0861 915 8000. Dinner/ show bookings can also be made for smaller groups and couples by arrangement with leading restaurants on the Nelson Mandela Square. Available performances are at 8.15pm daily from Thursday to Saturdays and a 6pm show on Saturdays in addition.

Spider and Scorpion Walk:

19 JANUARY — The Kloofendal Nature Reserve is hosting a spider and scorpion walk from 6.30pm. Bring a torch, wear walking shoes and bring a raincoat in case there is some rain. Scorpion expert Jonathan Leeming will present the walk. Costs are R70 for adults, R60 for pensioners, R50 for children and a donation of R10 per car for the security guard. Bookings can be done through Quicket.

Party at Marks Park:

20 JANUARY — Our Club, a friendship club for mature singles is hosting at party at Marks Park from 7.30pm. The park is situated on Judith Road, off Beyers Naudé Drive. Entry is R60 per person and a licensed bar will be open for drinks. There will also be dinner available from R50. Come and meet other people in a safe environment. Hike the Koppies:

21 JANUARY — A guided group tour through Melville Koppies Central will set off at 8.30am sharp. Park in the upper car park at Marks Park on Judith Road, Emmarentia. Then walk across Judith Road to the entrance on the opposite side. Costs are R60 for adults and R40 for children. All donations are used to maintain the Koppies. ­Children must be over six years old. Britain’s biggest comedian at the Dome:

20 JANUARY — Britain’s biggest comedian, Michael McIntyre, makes a stop in Johannesburg for his big world tour. In the United Kingdom, McIntyre has performed three arena tours – selling over 1,5 million tickets, including a record twenty-eight times at London’s 16 000 capacity O2 Arena where he was awarded the keys to the venue, along with Prince, Take That and One Direction.
