The matric class of 2017 has achieved a pass rate of 75 per cent‚ a 2,6 per cent increase on the 72,5 per cent in the previous year.

The figure reflects the achievement of the 401 435 matriculants who passed their National Senior Certificate exams, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said.

On Friday, 5 January, the Grade 12 class of 2017 across South Africa woke up early and eager to fetch their detailed matric results from their schools. Krugersdorp was no different when approximately 20 schools from this area popped champagne corks in celebration of their Class of 2017’s achievement.

Last year, High Technical School N Diederichs Hoër Tegniese Skool saw a total of 73 matriculants pick up their pens to complete their matric exams. According to principal Anton Strauss these are the best results the school has had in years. He is also satisfied with the number of distinctions achieved.

“The performance levels are absolutely brilliant – we are extremely proud of each and every learner. Their futures are in their hands now,” he said.

Next door at Townview High School reactions were not any different when 141 members of the Grade 12 class of 2017 visited the school to fetch their results.

Principal Jeniffer O’Brien said she was very proud of everyone who contributed to their high pass rate.

“I am very thankful for each and every staff member who worked so hard and did their part – from the cleaners to the educators and even the parents,” she said.

At Hoërskool Jan de Klerk, Deputy principal Sarita Daniel said they were very happy with the results of their 141 former matriculants and that they have improved greatly.

“Over the past few years our pass rate has stabilised quite nicely. We are very proud of the learners and the amount of hard work they had put into achieving this,” she said.

Townview learners are jumping for joy.

“It’s our own children’s results, and we trust that they will make us proud out there.”

These are only a few of the schools that celebrated another year of extraordinary matriculants.
