Following the murder of seven Krugersdorpers in 2016, the infamous Steyns – Marinda, Leroux, Marcel and Cecilia (the latter not related to the other three) – together with Zak Valentine were taken into custody. Charges of murder, aggravated assault, being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, committing fraud and identity theft were brought against them.

Another pre-trial date was set for Friday, 1 December to give the accused’s newly appointed advocates time to prepare. Their appointment was necessitated due to magistrates’ court lawyers not having the authority to defend clients in a high court. The trial date will also be set on that day.

An officer close to the case said the evidence against the siblings is overwhelming and the case is stronger than ever.
