Animal lovers Simonné Miller and Izak Els organised a golf day for the 9th Day Animal Shelter and raised more than R100 000 in aid of the charity.

The event was held at the Krugersdorp Golf Club on Friday, 8 September and months of planning finally paid off.

The two animal lovers could not stand to see more than 150 animals without homes and decided to raise money to secure a better future for them. Some time ago, the shelter was given notice to vacate the property they are currently leasing by December and has since been seeking a new property to house their animals.

With over 40 sponsors, both corporate and individuals, this day far surpassed Simonné and Izak’s expectations. The golf day saw 92 players partake in more than six competitions on the greens, and provided each player with the opportunity to have some fun by shooting a golf ball with a giant catapult. Each player had the privilege of receiving at least one prize and some players even left with two. The most valuable prize was valued at nearly R20 000.

After the round of golf, the players were treated to a dinner at the club and the opportunity to bid on a range of authentic auction items, including items signed by Louis Oosthuizen, Danny Willet and John Smit.

The golf day was a resounding success and an amount of R110 000 was raised. The proceeds will be paid over to The 9th Day and will be kept in an interest-bearing account until a suitable property has been found and secured. Simonné, Izak and the whole team at The 9th Day would like to thank all the sponsors for their participation and donations, without which this day would not have been possible.
