On Saturday, 2 September the West and East Rand chapters of the Red Heart Riders hosted yet another fundraiser. The event at Milkwood Pub and Grill was in support of Hillside Care Centre.

This club was founded by Kobus Huysamen roughly 40 years ago, with the aim of accommodating not only male bikers, but their families as well. The club has grown tremendously over the years and has been supporting quite a number of institutions in need.

For this purpose the club often hosts fundraising events, and their latest was no exception. Visitors could browse some stalls while listening to live music from yesteryear.

Captain Paula Terblanche, member of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Krugersdorp, who is also a member of the Proud 2B an Organ Donor Foundation, paid them a visit.

“By becoming an organ donor, as I have, you can save seven people’s lives. That’s why we decided to approach the bikers as they are in the same ‘risk category’ for example as firemen and those types of dangerous professions,” she explained.

She was thrilled when a large number of riders decided to become organ donors, including Sharon Wilkie, also known as Lady Wolf who is the National First Lady of the Red Heart Riders.

Not only did a care centre receive some much needed support, a lot of lives are potentially saved.
