On Sunday, 23 July, numerous suburbs in Krugersdorp experienced a water outage when the main feeder pipe situated on Van Riebeeck Road burst.

The areas affected included Boltonia, Krugersdorp West , Burgershoop, Quellerie Park, Krugersdorp North, Dan Pienaarville and Munsieville.

According to Lynette Zwankhuyzen, DA councillor for Ward 20, water tankers were brought in soon after the burst pipe was brought to the council’s attention.

“I have full confidence in the team who attended to the pipe. The situation is currently under control, and I would like to thank them for their hard work and dedication,” she said.

She went on to explain that the pipe was temporarily repaired on Sunday, and that the department was gathering the materials needed to fully repair the problem.

However, she is uncertain when residents can expect to have water, but has hope for this afternoon.

“We definitely can’t to say with certainty when water will become available, but I am hopeful the supply will be fully restored by tonight,” Lynette said.

This is the second burst in the same place – the same pipe burst in November last year, less than a year ago.

Sections of Rant-en-Dal, Protea Ridge and Pinehaven may also be affected, depending on how long the repair takes.

If any residents are affected by this outage, and are in dire need of water, they can visit the Rabbit Hole at 33 Viljoen Street until 7pm today and from 7am tomorrow with their empty bottles. Owner Rothea du Plessis encouraged anyone in need to contact her on 082 878 1731 during these hours.
