The King’s Tigers cheerleading squad form The King’s School West Rand recently triumphed over the rest when they walked away as the winners of the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (Samca) Championships.

This victory came after finishing second during the most recent provincial competition in Boksburg.

On Saturday, 8 July, they were one of eight teams to compete in the High School Small Co-Ed category at the Chatsworth Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.

“We were the first cheerleading squad on the field that day. From the minute they put their feet on the green, the Tigers were calm and determined to bring home gold,” Louise Steed, one of the cheerleader moms said.

According to Louise the competition was unbelievably stiff as they competed against other squads such as the Curro Blues, Dynamic All Stars, Fichardtpark and Oziel Silele.

“The team trained all year for this. They showed immense determination, charisma and sacrificed a lot to get their first place,” another cheerleader mom, Lynn Ahshene said.

“The Kings Tigers are already on the field training, as a real athlete never stops. They are a force to be reckoned with for the 2018 season. Watch this space,” she said

This is a well-deserved win as this dedicated team of 22 cheerleaders practise all year, four to eight hours a week, only to compete about four or five times a year.
