The Krugersdorp Road Runners are proud to announce that two of their members, Ronel and Johan van Graan participated in the recent 29th Rhodes Run – and made it look easy.

The 52km run, South Africa’s iconic breathtaking trail run, took place on Saturday, 8 July in the tranquil beauty of the southern Drakensburg Mountains surrounding the Victorian-era village of Rhodes in the Eastern Cape.

According to Ronel it’s an off-road trail that enables you to experience some of the Eastern Cape’s most breathtaking scenery, including the Mavis Bank kloof, the Tiffindell ski resort and the gorgeous Lesotho View.

“You get to climb mountains, walk through rivers and experience some beautiful views. Even though the mountain peaks are extremely cold every year, it’s worth it every time,” she said.

This is Ronel’s fourth Rhodes Run, and Johan’s third. When an athlete completes three runs, they receive a permanent number, which means that both Ronel and her husband now have their very own permanent numbers for this breathtaking trail run.

Although the cut-off time for this run is nine hours, this couple managed to finish in less than seven hours yet again, and Ronel finished second in her category.

“It was very challenging as we didn’t really prepare like the previous years. Nonetheless, we gave our best and they haven’t seen the last of us,” said Ronel.
