Excessive municipal bills – the way forward

Krugersdorp Town Hall

Mogale City’s municipal woes continue as multiple community members have reported receiving unusually high water and electricity bills during the last few weeks.

Melinda van der Merwe, a resident of Burgershoop, said her family’s future is uncertain because of the high electricity and water bills she has received in the last month.

“Usually our bills are about R800, but today I received one that is more than R4 000,” said Melinda.

“Sometimes the municipality cuts off the water and electricity for days due to the unpaid bill, despite me arguing that the bill is ridiculously high. And with this winter being so cold, it’s kind of important for us to have electricity.”

Luckily, Mogale City Local Municipality has devised a plan to help those who receive strange bills.

The municipality announced that all billing issues can be emailed to [email protected]. They request you to enter your account number in the subject tab, and that you include a description of the problem in the body of the email.

Meanwhile, the city is without a mayor, and the next council meeting will be held on Wednesday, 28 June.

If you have received a ridiculously high bill from the municipality, please inform the News by sending an email to [email protected].
