Police officers to pedal through the Cradle

The Krugersdorp team: Captain Frans Els, Lt Col Mike Henning, Lt Col Matt Viney, Captain Paula Terblanche, and Warrant Officer Tiaan Visser

Once a year, the best police cyclists in each province are chosen to compete against each other in the Police National Road Cycling Championships and this year, Krugersdorp Police Station believes it has the dream team.

Led by Captain Adel Germishuizen, they are part of the Gauteng Cycling team which consists of policemen and women who have been cycling for many years, and with their combined experience they’re more than ready to take to the tar and make their station proud.

The team was introduced at Provision IRS in Roodepoort on Friday, 10 June.

“A bad day on the bicycle beats a good day in the office,” said Leon Kruger, deputy station commander of the West Rand Police during his inspirational speech at the introduction. “[We are proud to be able] to host the national championships and know that our organisers will not disappoint the province. We have a great team who put in long hours on the road. These members were chosen for the Gauteng team because of their hard work and dedication. I know you all put in your own time, no matter the circumstances. They say ‘it never gets easier, you just go faster’. I know [that] if muscle and machine connect, extraordinary things happen.”
