Bikers to ride against farm murders

The Delphiniums and Megaforce biker clubs are hosting a massive awareness ride against farm murders on Sunday, 25 June.

Some of the members of these biker clubs have been victims of vicious farm attacks over the last few years.

Nelie Hendriks, the first lady of the Delphiniums, was one of them. She was home with her two children, who were six and eight at the time, when she heard some boxes in her house rattling.

She then heard the front door break open, and before she knew it, a suspect was standing in front of her.

Luckily, she was armed with a gun and pointed it at him.

“I pressed the panic button and a security company guard was there within seconds,” said Hendriks. “The guard told me to shoot the suspect, but the police told me not to.

I was standing there with my kids and I felt dead. I was emotionless in that moment and would have easily pulled the trigger if he had come any closer.”

The suspect was later arrested. Even though she was lucky that she did not become one of the farm murder statistics that day, Hendriks said that dealing with the trauma is still a challenge and months after the incident she still had the jitters.

Her uncle was not so lucky.

Hendriks went on to say, “I do not think people realise that if our farmers die, we’ll have no food.”

Due to the incidents and the trauma of seeing other farmers going through worse struggles, the biker club has decided that they need to make a statement. This ride, to them, is that statement.

The awareness ride starts at Cradlestone Mall at 9am on Sunday, 25 June and will end at Castle Inn on the N14.

Cloth badge collectors can look forward to buying the unique badge that marks this ride.

Non-bikers can also join the ride, in any vehicle they like.

Participants can also enjoy food stalls, live auctions, accessory stalls and entertainment after the ride.
