Teen arrested for shooting man in face during robbery

Krugersdorp Police have arrested an 18-year-old boy after he and a man broke into a house and shot the resident in the face on Thursday, 8 June.

Police were called to a scene after community members heard gunfire. On arrival at the residence, police found a man with a gunshot wound to his face.

He was still alive and emergency services were dispatched to the residence. He was stabilised and transported to hospital.

Police investigated the scene and established that two males had entered the victim’s house. They pointed a firearm towards him and demanded that he hand over his money. The victim told the suspects that he did not have any money. The suspects then fired a shot and ran away.

Vigilant community members heard the commotion and managed to apprehend one suspect while he was fleeing the scene.

He was arrested by the police and detained at the Krugersdorp Police station. He is now facing charges of attempted murder and possession of ammunition. He will appear in court soon, while his accomplice remains at large.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Brigadier Baloyi, station commander for Krugersdorp Police Station, applauded the community for its quick response after hearing the gunfire. “Their swift response when they heard the sound of a firearm being discharged ensured the arrest,” said the Brigadier. “Their efforts are appreciated.”
