[DC of the Week] Another suspect arrested in ‘man left behind’ robbery

Kagiso police have arrested a second suspect in connection with a business robbery that occurred on Tuesday, 9 May at about 3am, two months after he allegedly helped three other suspects ransack a spaza shop in Tshepisong.

On Saturday, 4 March, one of the victims alleged that he was was busy in the shop with his two assistants when the they decided to take a break. Suddenly, four men appeared outside the shop and attacked them using a knife. The shopkeeper and his assistants ran into the shop for safety and locked themselves in.

Three of the men, each armed with a firearm, then sped off in a getaway vehicle, threatening to return. The fourth man was left behind and was subsequently chased and caught by members of the community. The other assailants returned to the shop later and held the two assistants at gunpoint. They entered the shop and took cash and cartons of cigarettes.

Fortunately, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Further intensive police investigations then led to the arrest of the second suspect.

He made a brief appearance in front of the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 May and is facing charges of business robbery.
