Elderly robbed at Home Affairs — Department issues warning

The Department of Home Affairs has recently experienced serious issues with people posing as Home Affairs employees outside their premises.

An elderly man recently got robbed of R1 000 by people pretending to be in Home Affairs’ employ. They also claimed to take photos on behalf of Home Affairs.

The Department gave the following advice:

• Do not allow anyone to assist you outside the Home Affairs premises

• Do not allow anyone not wearing the Home Affairs uniform and a name tag to offer you assistance

• Do not hand over money to any person except the Home Affairs cashier

• Do not have photos taken at photo vendors as all transactions are done through the Home Affairs electronic photo systems

The Department also emphasises that one requires two passport-size photo only if one applies for a temporary identification document.

The Department urges the community to be vigilant and safe.
