Man arrested for assaulting wife

Hekpoort Police arrested a 47-year-old man on Saturday, 16 April after he allegedly assaulted his wife on Good Friday.

The 25-year-old woman claimed that her husband assaulted her before pointing a firearm at her.

The shotgun belonged to the man’s brother. Warrant Officer Van der Molen and his team arrested the suspect and charged him with attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

They discovered another firearm, a 9mm pistol and confiscated it as well. Both firearms were booked in at the Hekpoort Police Station.

The suspect has already appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court. He was denied bail and was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
