Police arrest alleged rapist ‘friend’

A 39-year-old man was arrested a day after he allegedly kidnapped and raped a woman in Rietvallei, west of Kagiso. He allegedly knows her well.

The woman alleged that the man arrived at her house and asked her to accompany him to a nearby spaza shop. On their way to the spaza shop, he became aggressive and ordered her woman to go to his place of residence.

He threatened to assault her if she did not go and grabbed her. He forced her into his shack where he raped her. The woman screamed, but nobody heard her. After the alleged raping her, the rapist refused to let his victim leave. She was only allowed to leave the next morning.

She immediately went to Kagiso Police Station where she laid a charge against the man. The police launched a manhunt for the alleged rapist and on Wednesday, 12 April he was arrested and detained at Kagiso Police Station. A case docket of kidnapping and rape was registered at the station. The suspect will make a brief appearance in court.
