First of April: What a joke!

Play a good joke, spread a not-so-white lie … why? Because it is April Fools’ Day!

Every year on 1 April this day is celebrated all over the world. People play practical jokes and some even spread fake hoaxes. They go to great lengths to create elaborate events for the day. Luckily this year April Fools’ Day is on a Saturday, allowing endless (harmless) possibilities.

Sometimes these pranks are very predictable, but they can cause the ‘victims’ to become anxious and break out in a cold sweat.

Although not a public holiday, this day has been celebrated since the 19th century when English pranksters began popularising the annual tradition of April Fools’ Day by playing practical jokes on each other.

The exact origins of the day, however, remain a mystery.

How to prank someone this April Fools’ Day:

• Place an air horn underneath someone’s chair

• Play a simple prank

• Stare up at the sky

• Make a food prank

• Switch salt and sugar

• Tell a lie

Expose your prank by shouting “April fool!”.

Be on your guard, be prepared and enjoy being a prankster – or even a ‘victim’.
