New method of stealing cars

Car theft is sky high at the moment and motorists should be more vigilant than ever.

Thieves use several ways to steal cars. They often use tested methods, but a new modus operandi has surfaced in several cases reported recently.

This is how they do it: While your car is locked, potential thieves slide a coin in the door handle on the passenger side. Unlocking the car does not affect the position of the coin. When the motorist stops at another destination and ‘locks’ the vehicle, the central locking system will not function properly. The potential thieves, who have followed the motorist, then open the car and steal from it everything that interests them – even the car itself.

It is advised that motorists inspect their cars before driving off and also make sure that their cars are indeed locked after parking it.
