Police officers on the West Rand have once again proved they are worth their salt by making numerous successful arrests during the first month of 2017.

In total, the West Rand Cluster secured 221 arrests during the last week of January. Detectives arrested four suspects in Magaliesburg after they had allegedly robbed a house and murdered a victim in December last year.

The arrests were made as a result of community tip-offs which led the detectives to the residence of the suspects.

Detectives also arrested six suspects in Kagiso for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. One of the suspects were also sought for an attempted murder and this case was reopened after his arrest. Police also arrested numerous suspects for other crimes such as assault, drug-related crimes, dealing in liquor, shoplifting, theft, illegal mining, culpable homicide, contempt of court, and many others.

Major General Anna Mateisi, the West Rand Cluster commander expressed her satisfaction with the number of arrests.

“Clever deployment and intelligence-driven operations yielded results in all the areas in the West,” Mateisi said. “We appreciate the inputs of our communities in addressing crime.”

The Cluster urges community members to continue assisting them with information. Any member with information can contact Crime stop on 08600 10111 or send an SMS to Crime Line on 32211 to report crime anonymously.

Community members can also fight fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour or any other suspicious activities that could be detrimental to our success by contacting the Gauteng Standby Provincial Duty numbers: Duty General on 082 313 8299 or Duty Brigadier on 082 444 4354.
