A 25-year-old suspect was arrested in Kagiso after he allegedly kidnapped a three-year-old boy and assaulted his mother on Thursday, 3 November.

The complainant (the boy’s mother) alleged that her foreign boyfriend assaulted her at her place of residence on Wednesday, 2 November, at about 6.30pm. She sustained injuries to her left knee and ankle. It is alleged that the complainant’s sister-in-law informed her later that day that the suspect had taken her son out and promised he was going to buy him new clothes.

Later, the complainant received a call from the suspect who demanded the sum of R320 000 before he would return the child to her.

She immediately reported the matter to the Kagiso Police who responded swiftly by launching a search for the suspect and the child.

Intense investigation led the police to a house in Lindela Village, Krugersdorp where they arrested the suspect and located the child.

The suspect was detained at Kagiso Police Station and is set to appear in court on charges of assault and kidnapping.
