Hundreds of residents fled for their lives after the local police’s Flying Squad showed up at a chaotic mob justice scene in Krugersdorp last night.
It is believed that mob justice was being served to illegal miners.
Mob justice is when a large angry mob takes justice into their own hands. Usually it ends with somebody getting seriously hurt or even killed.
Police were conducting their normal patrolling duties when they stumbled upon a messy scene in Monument Street last night around 7pm.
Once they arrived, residents ran in all directions and police found injured people scattered along the road and quickly called for backup.
The local Krugersdorp Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) first aid responders quickly rushed to the scene to attend to the critically injured victims, followed by the CPF’s Sector 3, 4, 5 patrollers who closed off the road from all three directions.
Shortly thereafter ambulances services along with Mogale City’s Emergency Management Services arrived.
A bystander told the News that at some point there was a total of six ambulances at the three kilometre stretched out scene.
Two bodies were found by police and patrollers in the field opposite the Krugersdorp Correctional Services, one of which was burned to death and the other had what seemed to be a fatal gunshot wound.
The four remaining victims’ injuries included stab wounds, fractures from being beating with pipes and a dislocated arm.
The News is awaiting the official statement from police regarding the brutal attack.
