Steve Gilroy’s passion for his brewery and restaurant saw him winning gold for the most leisurely tourist destination on the West Rand – again.
“I want guests to relax. I make sure they laugh a lot,” Steve said.
His recipe to success is to have fun always. He for example not only serves, but also performs for guests. The restaurant is open every day of the week, except on Mondays.
“We need a rest to stay young and lovely,” Steve said.
Gilroy’s premium beers are a unique blend of brews you only will find at Gilroy’s Pub and Brewery.
His craft beers have a smooth, elegant taste. He uses a mix of barley, yeast, water and hops, which are used primarily as a flavouring and stability agent in the beer.
“We brew the simple way. We don’t use any preservatives.”
Steve assured anyone who doesn’t drink beer or dislikes the taste will change their mind after tasting a Gilroy brew.
Gilroy’s also took second place for the best outdoor restaurant on the West Rand.
“We compete against places such Maropeng and Silverstar. So we are very proud.”
After eight years of brewing, Gilroy’s still produces 14 000 litres beer a month. Steve admitted he drinks most of it himself, for quality control, of course.
“It’s the goodness in the beer. It is a completely natural product that leaves you with a warm feeling.”
Next up is the Lilizela Tourism Award, a national competition for venues of all sizes and Steve has a feeling Gilroy’s might win.
