‘I believe in prayer – do you?’

A few weeks ago, during my early walk, a jogger stopped me to ask a question.

She had just been retrenched and was asking for prayer for the right job. This morning, a few weeks later, the same lady, this time with a smile from ear to ear, stopped me again. Judging by her smile, I guessed that she got a new job. I asked and her reply was an enthusiastic “Yes”.

Every morning when I passed the place where we spoke for the first time, I shot up a quick prayer for her. I kept my promise and God performed a miracle.

On the way home I thought about all the times we say, “I will pray for you”, and then forget about it. A promise to pray is a promise that must be honoured.

I would not be here, nor would I be able to pray for others if I didn’t have others praying for me. Praying for others, even total strangers, is a way of paying others back for praying for you. James 5:16b says, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

A miracle is only a prayer away. I believe in prayer – do you?
