Curro Krugersdorp hosted their first ever and very successful trail run with a whopping 530 entrants.

There were four trails – a 2,5km, a 5km, a 10 km and for those who felt really adventurous, there was a 20km trail.

Children of all ages entered the Curro Trail Run.

On Saturday, 25 March, Tranquil Gumbo won the 20km trail that stretched from Hero Adventure Park in Rangeview to the beautiful Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden.

The trail is one of the toughest in the area because of the steep hills and rugged terrain. Families, friends and colleagues took to the trails and completed the other races. After the event, delicious coffee and treats were available at the Farmers’ Market. Free wellness assessments was offered by the biokinetics students of the Department of Sport and Movement Studies, in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Johannesburg.

Athletes and spectators could also assess their BMI, blood pressure, waist circumference, heart rate, flexibility, muscle endurance, height and weight at a special gazebo set up at the event. The Proteadal Conservation Association educated runners on a beautiful and rare orchid in the area where the trail run took place.

It is not only a beautiful, unspoiled area, and the home of a rare orchid, but several other orchids and other beautiful indigenous flora and fauna also grow and flourish here. The rare orchid is now on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN’s) global Red List and is critically endangered.

Dads with their children also entered the trail run.

Before the race runners were told about the orchid, and the organisers appealed to them not to stray from the demarcated path. Curro Krugersdorp is privileged to have this amazing area on their doorstep.

Curro would like to thank its sponsors for their contribution. These sponsors include Hobby Park, Robert Broom Superspar, CMH Volvo West Rand, CMH Mitsibushi West Rand, Kip McGrath Ruimsig, Rock Safe Mining, Gra-Tech, Grit, Wirulink, Steers and Fishaways Robert Broom, Hinrichsen Attorneys and Lisa Steenkamp.
