The year of mercy at St Ursula’s

The Serviam group with their first outreach of the year.

The Latin word ‘serviam’ means ‘to serve’ and St Ursula’s School has certainly served the Krugersdorp community.

“To change the world, we must be good to those who cannot repay us,” said Pope Francis. Consequently, the school runs an outreach project four times a year, with each project benefiting a different organisation. This year they chose Laerskool Ebenhaeser as their first project.

The school donated several basic needs to needy families of the community.

The school started collecting clothes, blankets and food, and making them up into parcels for members of the community who are in need. The parcels were delivered to the school on 21 February and were then distributed to families that are in need.

The Serviam project went hand-in-hand with the Feast of St Angela, the school’s founding saint. St Angela’s calling was teaching and caring for women. St Ursula was her patron saint, hence the school’s name.

“For 113 years we have been actively involved in the community of Krugersdorp, teaching and serving all members of the community,” said Serviam leader, Cathy Harrison.

The school strives to make a difference in as large an area as possible, and to show its learners how to give and serve the community.
