The ward’s for the taking

De Waal Venter is making way for Brendon May, the official DA candidate councillor for ward 9.

With the municipal elections set for 3 August, Brendon May, the official DA candidate councillor for Ward 9 said he is ready to step up to the plate.

Many councillors hope to be re-elected for another term on 3 August, while others like De Waal Venter, the current Ward 9 councillor, is looking forward to retirement or new opportunities.

Brendon, an outspoken and enthusiastic politician, hopes to win the ward made up of Mindalore and a section of Kagiso. Brendon, who recently moved to Krugersdorp with his wife and child, is the DA‘s Regional Operations Manager. He designs, executes and implements political activity.

De Waal said it was an honour to have served as Ward 9’s councillor for five years.

“I realised that every person I worked with is admirable,” he said.

He added that his reason for endorsing Brendon is that Brendon also knows that everybody should be treated equally and fairly.

“It can be difficult to be a ward councillor. You work so closely with so many people and try to help solve their problems,” De Waal said.

Brendon believes he is ready for the hard work.

“If the DA wins the ward, I would like to focus on unemployment, education and drugs as I know these are the issues that the residents deal with,” he said.

The 27-year-old joined the Democratic Alliance in 2009 after he decided that complaining about the country from his couch was not going to solve anything.

The ANC released its list of ward councillor candidates this week and Velile Khumalo is the official candidate for Ward 9. The EFF candidate list is not yet available.
